Definition of Honor There are many definitions of the word honor, and they will vary depending on the people who are defining it. The textbook definition of honor is “respect that is given to someone who is admired” (Merriam-Webster). Some will say it is to be well respected by many people, and have high moral standards. Honor has been desired by people throughout time whether they are fighting for it on the battlefield, or trying to bring honor to their families. Honor was never given out to people. It had to be earned, and people had to be given something to respect. Honor was a big topic for many philosophers such as: Plato, Confucius, Niccolo Machiavelli, and Socrates. One common way that honor is earned is by sacrificing one's life
