The word honor is used in many different ways today. Many people have different views on what honor is and how it can be attained. Honor has lost its true meaning over the years. When it comes down to defining what honor actually is, it gets tough because of all the different views on the concept. Honor means nothing to some, everything to others, and some people just don’t care enough about it to have an opinion. Honor has lost its true meaning in the world we live in today. Merriam Webster defines honor as having a high respect or esteem. There is much more to honor than just a lousy definition. Honor is a priceless respect gained by few. A person’s honor cannot be bought, sold, or traded; it’s something that must be gained through the respect of the people that surround you. Honor is having everyone look up to you for who you are and what you stand for. Honor can be recognized through a person’s speech throughout each and every day. In America, there is a specific award given to men who deserve honor and respect; this award is called the Medal of Honor. The Medal of Honor is not given to just anyone, but only to someone who has the most valor in war. For example, William D. Hawkins received the Medal of Honor for killing 30 men, while having shrapnel from a grenade imbedded in his chest and five bullets in his legs.
