These figures were prominent in history and their names went down in history. They saw heros as mighty warriors slaying enemies in battle and conquering large territories. Most often, they lived in large houses and had considerable amounts of money. The heros were god-like and put on pedestals for the world to see. An example of a Roman hero is Lucius Junius Brutus, the man Marcus Junius Brutus who murdered Caesar was named after. Lucius was the son of Tarquinia, whose father was the fifth king of Rome. Tarquinius Superbus was the king at the time of Brutus’s rise. Brutus did not trust or respect the royal family due to their inhumane and cruel actions. When he heard that the king’s son raped a noblewoman he was enraged and rallied a large group of armed men to hunt down the king. He led the revolution to where the king and army were camped, forcing the king’s family to flee. The Roman army saw him as a hero. To this day Lucius is known as the man who overthrew the last king of Rome established the Roman republic. Our idea of a hero is a firefighter or police man who risks it all to save lives. They are common people who work long, hard hours and are paid for their services. Little kids look up to these men and women, and adults admire their courage and dedication. In addition to humans who are saving lives everyday, there are heros who made a quick decision that saved many lives. Captain Chesley Sullenberger was a pilot who was in the background, unknown, like most pilots were, until 2009. He was flying a full plane of passengers over New York when a flock of bird flew into the engines. The engines failed and the plane almost broke down. Sullenberger made a tough decision and decided to, with the help of his co pilot, land in the Hudson River. As a result of this he managed to save all 155 people aboard the plane without any injury. He was declared a national hero and his story was spread across the world. His devotion and abilities helped 155 people and their families and friends, who would have been heartbroken had anything serious happened to them that day. People like Sullenberger are recognized as heros for their sometimes spontaneous and risky actions which have saved so many.
