What is Feminism?
According to Google, feminism is “the advocacy of women 's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men.” Almost throughout the entire establishment of society, women have been viewed as weak, fragile, powerless, and emotional. The man of the household is supposed to be the breadwinner of the family. He is supposed to have the job, make the all of the money, and provide in any and every way for his family. For the emotional aspect of being a man in society, he is filtered to hold back emotions and carry a heartless and tough exterior because “men aren’t supposed to be weak” and “men do not cry”. While, for a woman, she is supposed be “lady-like,” proper, and emotional. Because she has emotions, that is based off of her actions. The woman is known …show more content…
Feminism is the growing progress women are making in society to achieve their dreams.
The origin of feminism could be traced to France in 1837, when Charles Fourier, a French philosopher invented the word. By 1910, the word feminism and the many things it stood for appeared in most of the countries in Europe and in the United States, despite the many different causes and objectives of feminism in many of these countries. In the beginning of the feminism movements, it started with focusing on the campaigns and advertisements for the rights of women to embark on contractual agreements, parental/ parenting rights, agitation for equality within marriage union, and the rights to owning property. The next chapter of the feminism movements, centered on creating campaigns for women’s rights to gain political power. And currently, feminism movements are continuing to create paths for the freedom of women.
