Definition Of Faith

Improved Essays
To me the term “faith” means to have complete trust in someone or something, when you have no reason to doubt. Faith is not a blank check; it does not mean that I will believe or trust someone or something blindly. There still must be some logical reasoning for me to have this belief. An example of this would be my faith in airplanes and their safety. When I get on an airplane, I do not worry that the plane will crash or that anything bad will happen. I completely trust that the plane was made well and maintained so that it will function properly. Whenever I travel on an airplane I do so with out any hesitation, and have faith that the airplane will get me to where I need to go safely. This is faith specifically because I believe that I will …show more content…
While Faith is having a belief or trust based on logic, fanaticism is having belief or trust but without any logical reasoning behind it. We can look at this from the example of a relationship between a boyfriend and a girlfriend. Let’s say that the girlfriend has a history of cheating on her partner, and the boyfriend has also caught the girlfriend cheating several times over the course of their relationship. Every time the girlfriend is caught cheating she promises to never cheat again, and the boyfriend believes her. This is what I would call fanaticism. The boyfriend believes that the girl will change her ways and suddenly become loyal, but there is no logical reason to believe that. Not only has she cheated in previous relationships, but she has also done so in the current one. The fact that she has cheated in the current relationship shows that the current relationship is no different than her previous ones, and she clearly does not feel any remorse, because if she did she would not cheat. The boyfriend is being fanatical in this situation because there is no logical reason for him to continue in the relationship with this woman or believe that she will change her behavior. Simply put, fanaticism is having a faith or belief without any logical …show more content…
In this chapter God tells Abraham to take his only son, Isaac, as a burnt offering. The purpose of this chapter was for God to test Abraham’s faith. Abraham followed God’s instruction and just before he was about to kill Isaac, God spoke to Abraham and told him not to do it because Abraham has now proved his faith in God. The question that arises from this is, should we consider Abraham as a model of faith. First of all, it must be considered that the bible is a very old piece of literature, it was written in a very different time period for the people of that time period. Taking the events from the bible and applying it to modern times is not very simple, thus there is not a yes or no answer to this question. Therefore, I believe that Abraham is indeed a model of faith, but only for the ancient Jew and not a present day

Over the years, Jewish faith has started to be lost because of the hardships faced in the holocaust. The thought of there being a god that protects them slowly diminished due to the fact they had to face all of these tortures. Many still believe in the “almighty god” that is supposed to protect you while others gave up in the “supposed god” that protects you from all of the evils of the world and give good things to those that have done nothing wrong and followed him wholeheartedly. Also, the generations to come after the holocaust would have their ideology influenced by the previous generations because of their loss in faith. Faith is what someone believes in, regardless in actually knowing in what people are putting faith into.…

This was a test to see if he had faith in god, but not just to see if god existed. Abraham believed that no matter what happens to Isaac, he will have Isaac back at the end. Since Abraham withstood the test, at the last minute when he went to sacrifice isaac, he was allowed to sacrifice a ramp instead. Therefore, Kierkegaard described Abraham as the knight of faith because his action was not universal. He did everything as god commanded without anyone 's advice or without telling anyone.…

Faith is the strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof. This is important to Christians because it’s what we follow and we believe about Jesus and God. Everyone perception of faith is different but what Azusa Pacific aims to do is to include everyone of faith. It is often confused what faith is and what it is not. Indeed it is an abstract term which its definition will change depending on who you ask. Throughout the works of two authors, Faith by Terrence W. Tilley and The Essential Tillich by Paul Tillich, the term faith gets evaluated and explained in a more in depth fashion. Everyone has faith; it does not have to be a religious belief, but in fact it can be a relationship with something, a center of value, or a motive. Faith, to me, is an abstruse concept where the components of belief, hope and morality unite to form a synonymous definition.…

    Reason Vs Religion

Faith and reason often go hand in hand simply because of the fact that one could argue that one does not exist without the other. The major arguments for them going hand in hand is that someone can be faithful or unfaithful to a voice of reason or have reason to be faithful or unfaithful. One could also argue that faith and reason could be divided into two separate categories, or that they’re considered to be two separate things. In this case Elizabeth A. Johnson and Charles Darwin would exemplify reason because of the way they prioritize science over God, while John Henry Newman argues that religion gives people a “sense of security” and that having faith in God makes you knowledgeable which makes you smarter. Although they have conflicting…

How My Faith Defines Who I Am Faith: having a strong belief in a religion, or an even stronger belief in a God. I personally believe in God the Father, and that he created each and every one of us in his own image. I believe that Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sin and brought us new life through his death and resurrection. In my faith I stand as a Catholic, which means I believe in only one God. However, God is three persons, also known as the Holy Trinity, meaning there is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.…

In the pursuit of knowledge, it is the knower who seeks information. How a person sees and comprehends this knowledge is adjusted when by society, and potentially a location. Each “knower” is different; some people can have multiple perspectives or perhaps a person could have an open mind. In my current status, I would have to agree with this statement because sometimes the perspective we have clouds our ability to understand different topics. Perspective helps us understand certain things due to the fact that we develop it from the knowledge we already have and from there we push forward.…

Faith by definition is, “Complete trust or confidence in something or someone” but I believe it is a feeling, It is something that I know to be true. If you truly believe in something no one can convince you that your belief is in vain. This also implies that you need to follow through with that belief and live it out every day. Something you believe in is incorporated into your daily life and is apart of who you are. If you are not implementing it in your life you are missing the mark and do not truly have faith in your belief.…
