What comes to your mind when someone mentions the word hero? Martin Luther King Jr? A cape and special powers? The dictionary defines it as a person noted for courageous acts or nobility of character. Yet every person has a different idea in their mind, of what a hero means to them. Personally, I believe that a hero is a person who is selfless, kind, and caring. A person who will put off their needs until everyone else is taken care of. They are willing to do whatever it takes to make the world a better place, even when nobody is watching. Superman, Batman, and Spiderman are all heros that do this. One may even be right next to you. Look around, there are people putting their lives on the line to fight for this country. People such as military men, police officers, firefighters. They save a life every 23 seconds, inspire people everywhere, and bring justice to those who need it, but not all heroes have to do something big. A small thing can make a big difference. Therapist help a lot with people's emotional health, and blood donors could possibly save someone's life. It’s those small everyday things that help. Donating food to the homeless shelter for example, or organizing a fundraiser for sick kids, and not all heroes are humans. Animals are some of the biggest heros. Seeing dogs, comforting cats. There is much evidence of dogs and cats that saved lives. . . . Heroes stand in the face of diversity, and pressure, but instead of cowering they thrive under it. They have a heart of gold and think that everyone has a little good in them. In books and movies, the hero is usually shows as a perfect person always there to save the day, but in reality no one is perfect. Even if you are not a perfect person, that doesn’t mean your not a hero to someone. It’s in fixing your mistakes and trying to make the world a better place. My personal hero/heroes is my family.
