Sonsyrea Tate once said, “You can leave home all you want, but home will never leave you.” This statement gives light to a higher meaning of the word “home” than merely a place to live. Many people look at home as a place or a dwelling, but not many people see home as a state of mind; however, home is a state of mind. The Architizer defines home as a complex, interpretational, and unique way of organizing and understanding the space within ourselves and the way the world around us is constructed (Linda Bennett, "Architizer"). With this definition, one can assume that “home” includes heavy influences on feelings, thought, and actions.…

Everyone in the world most likely has a different meaning and understanding of the frequently used word, “home”. There is so many ways to define home. Per Dictionary.com, home is defined as, “a house, apartment, or other shelter that is the usual residence of a person, family, or household” or “the place or region where something is native or most common.” Except, these definitions are very general and do not really explain the true meaning of a home. Home can also be considered one’s dwelling place, for the definitions of what a home and what a dwelling space are, are so similar that they almost mirror each other. I think the easiest way to explain home is to say it is where one lives, but to me that is not what a home is. I choose to view home as a family unit, for houses can be bought and sold, and people can move around in a nomadic manner, but as long as you are with your family, home will stay the same forever. With this, comes the expression of “coming from a good home”, insinuating that a person is a good person because they were raised in a good home.…

In some households, the term “home” is a place where a child could unwind for their day and enjoy being with the people they love the best.
