Definition Essay's What Is Home?

When asked “What is home?”, a variety of answers can be deemed correct. Home can be considered a place of residency, a family unit, a place where something flourishes, along with many other interpretations. Whatever one’s connotation of home is, it is almost always considered to be viewed in a positive light. This is because home is a place of comfort. When you are at what you consider home, there are no expectations, and it is no doubt a place of acceptance. It is a safe place, where one can strip away their hardships and become naked, both physically and emotionally. Home can also be considered one’s dwelling place, for the definitions of what a home and what a dwelling space are, are so similar that they almost mirror each other. I think the easiest way to explain home is to say it is where one lives, but to me that is not what a home is. I choose to view home as a family unit, for houses can be bought and sold, and people can move around in a nomadic manner, but as long as you are with your family, home will stay the same forever. The idea of going home is unavoidable on a college campus. Every weekend you hear of people going home and how excited they are for their journey home. They inform you of all of their favorite activities that they plan to take part in while they are home, and you cannot help but to be excited for them, despite the slight jealousy you may also hold. So, why are poeple so happy to go home? It goes back to the idea that home is a safe place, a place free of judgements and expectations, a place of acceptance, and a place of comfort.
