If one were to look it up in the dictionary, they would find it simply to mean, "A person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements or noble qualities." A hero can really be defined according to the mind of the beholder. Over time the perception of a hero has changed and it will only continue to change. Everyone needs a hero figure within' their life, it is a necessity.

A typical hero has heroism as a main characteristic, which means they have great bravery in whatever they do. It is a very broadly defined characteristic. This quality is not learned, it is known from birth. Most people can develop courage over time but heroism is natural, you have it or you do not. Those are the people we look up to and thank every day for what they do, but have you ever wondered what heroes were like back in history. We hear about the ones who made a difference, those were the heroes everybody had back then. The people who stood up for every other individual and told others what they believed. Take Martin Luther King Jr. for an example. He is a very famous hero because of the heroic acts he decided to take, not only for himself and his family but for the whole population of his color. He was an amazing man and changed America for the better, risking his life for the future, now that's a true hero. This is a prime example of how heroes change over time as well. The world we live in, does not see many people like this because we do not live in times that we need drastic help in these sorts of areas so our heroes currently are known for different heroic

The Oxford Dictionary defines a hero as a person who is admired for their courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. The example of a hero that they provided was a war hero. I don’t disagree that the people who go off to war are brave and, for the most part honorable, but I do believe that by those standards, very few people today will ever truly earn the title of “hero.” For example, two of the most notable Greek heroes are Odysseus, a famous war hero, and Antigone, a princess who stood up for what she believed in even in the face of death.…

I believe that a hero is made, not born. Nobody is born with characteristics of a hero, such as: fortitude, benevolence, vigor, or empathy. These characteristics blossom inside a person over time and life experiences. The quote, “Heroism is not only in the man, but in the occasion.” , by Calvin Coolidge tells us that heroism is something that is shown when a specific person is thrown into a situation.…

The majority of people have their own definition of a hero, my definition is, a hero is someone that fights for what they believe in, no matter the consequences. Like Beowulf for example, stood up for the people of Heorot when Grendel started to attack, and he also went after the dragon to protect his people. Another hero to me would be Boo Radley. Both Boo, and Beowulf fought for what they thought was right, and also changed how people thought of them.…

Some people do not know that they are even someone’s hero. When a person has the power to stand strong and fight for what they believe in they too can be a hero. These are the type of people that give others hope and save lives each and every day. You do not have to have super powers to save someone, you do not have to be in a position or a career where the main goal is to save someone’s life such as a doctor, a policeman or a firefighter. Heroes can be everyday people, such as a teacher; who teaches kids the everyday essentials of life to grow and be a better person, a parent; who guides and raise their children and protect their children, and even a janitor or trash man; people that help keep the environment clean for our safety and…
