Definition Essay-The Truth Behind Trust

The Truth Behind Trust When introduced to someone for the very first time, trust is automatically given. I listen to the words coming off their lips and believe it. Why? Because I haven’t yet been handed a reason not to. Eventually, stories begin to change, and the truth is unveiled. We call them out, announcing we know what they assume we don’t, yet they continue to fib. Some may begin to tell the truth, while others continue to lie. Some may beg for forgiveness, and other don’t even try. Gaining trust back takes time and effort, and although the pieces are patched together, trust is never the same. Trust is well underappreciated, and especially very hard to maintain. Many of us expect trust to come naturally, which at all isn’t the case-- …show more content…
I believe someone becomes more trustworthy when I’m comfortable in their presence. Imagine riding a bike, feeling more alive than ever before, and then crashing to a bush. Bent handle bars and a flat tired result from the accident. No one would feel okay riding this bike again, or would in any way want to. We are the same way with trusting someone. After being lied to and hurt, we aren’t going to jump right back into trusting them. The relationship once had is now destroyed, and can never be repaired. People naturally give out trust, which is what many don’t realize. Trust goes a long way, but we tend to take advantage of it. Lying to someone doesn’t ruin their trust with you, but also with the next person to come into their life. I admit, everyone makes mistakes. And I also believe that people do deserve second chances. What gets me going though, is when someone keeps repeatedly lying. After making the same mistakes over and over again, it’s no longer a mistake. We tend to take everyone else’s trust for granted, whereas our trust is hard to even gain. Overall, telling the truth is easier, and won’t cause as much fuss. It burns my throat to be honest sometimes, but when I love and care about someone, I’d rather have them in my life then

Our essential question was “How is trust is created or destroyed?” I would answer it by saying that trust is created or destroyed by the presence or lack of credibility. I came to this conclusion by comparing how in Mean Girls, Julius Caesar, and in real life how trust is earned and lost. Throughout our entire podcast, we saw that a common theme with trust in all three scenarios is the strong ability to rely on the other person. For example, Janis relies on Cady to betray The Plastics, until she loses her trust when she realizes she can no longer rely on her.…

Trust is built in the everyday interactions we have with the ones around us. If there is no emotional interaction, then you cannot build trust with that person. Don’t force a person to share with you emotionally, or understand your emotional needs. There is no sense in trying to work it out with someone you cannot share with on an emotional level.
