Definition Essay: The True Truth

Improved Essays
Truth means absolute. It is the opposite of fake. When you want to know if Santa's real you always ask your parents, because you trust them. Or at least I did.. Are you telling the truth? Do you pinky promise? As children we always wanted to know the truth, the real stuff. But now as we grow into adulthood the authenticity is a little scary. Truth is we will all have to grow up, we will have to pay water bills, buy groceries, get married, and be alone sometimes. That's the truth, it will happen. But some truths are bigger than others. I’m not saying that some truths are not as true as others, I’m saying some have more significance than others do. Some that will change your whole life, and some that will not really affect your life. Truth is …show more content…
Finding out if someone has died or not, or has cancer. You repeatedly ask the doctors for answers in the emergency room and they say they don't know, but you know they do. The only thing they don't know is who is going to tell you. That is the reality truth; when it sets in that life is temporary. Life is temporary! That's another truth. A bigger and bolder one, is God. He is the truths of all truths. The most real life changing of all. Nothing about the gospel is fake and deceiving and that is why I believe it is the biggest veracity. It will effect your entire life, not a day or hour of it. If you believe that Jesus died for your sins, you give your life to him, you believe that is the truth. There are so many different types of truths big or small. I don't want to confuse you about the infinite significance of the truth. I'd like you to understand the values of truths. We want to know the truth when it benefits us. If you don't care about something then why would you care to know the falsehood of it. What we believe to be true is what makes us who we are. We act upon our verisimilitudes. Something that is true to you may not be true to your neighbor. It may have more importance to you, than someone

Truth is precarious thing. All too often we think of truth only as cold hard facts that are indisputable and undeniable. There must be evidence to support a claim in order for it to be accepted as truth. Whether it be in court before a jury, at home in front of family, or at work in front of other employees, evidence is required for something to be placed under the categories of factual, real, true, and legitimate. If evidence fails to exist when a claim is made then it is dismissed as a lie, as false, inaccurate, and deceitful.…

    Angels In America Analysis

    • 5 Pages

Throughout the book Angels in America, Tony Kushner uses the truth to portray how ignorance and innocence can worsen situations that are unwanted, while cognizance may not fully solve the problem, it may help this person come to a realization of what needs to happen, and ultimately end or move on from that current situation. In this quote about the truth, Prior specifically does not say that the truth always fucks you, he states that the truth “mostly” fucks you. The word “always” means, at all times; on all occasions, and the word “mostly” is defined by: as regards the greater part or number. The reason Prior uses the word mostly is because Prior realizes that although the truth may well “fuck” people at first, by comparing the definitions…

    Truth In 12 Angry Men

    • 220 Words

In the film, 12 Angry Men, I believe that the most important question about life that was addressed was the difference between belief and truth. At the beginning, when the jury first started the discussion 11 out of the 12 believed the man on trial was guilty of first degree murder. Throughout the course of the discussion, many things that would make a huge difference in the case were pointed out and brought to light. For example, the actual number of seconds it took for the old man to walk to his door. People believed that the man could easily have done it in 15 seconds, but when it was acted out it was proven to take over 40 seconds, therefore the jurors initial belief was proven incorrect and the truth was brought to light.…

Truth does not exist. Even if there are dozens of eyewitnesses to an event, their stories will always vary when they are retold. They may not mean to change their story, or maybe they do, either way no one but they will ever know. Truth is nothing but a subjective idea.…

A vacuum in physics is described as a space completely empty of matter. Much like in physics, it’s completely possible for a void to be completely empty in one’s life. What people do with free space is fill it up with objects or other things of value. No one enjoys empty spaces in their lives and are immediately filled. In Haruki Murakami’s Town of Cats Tengo lives with a vacuum in his life questioning the relationship that he has with his father trying to fill the void he’s been living with not knowing if that’s truly his father or not.…

The matter of truth and perception are two concepts in which the definition changes depending on the individual. In the book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, the author Stephen R. Covey speaks of an experience at the Harvard business School where and instructor demonstrated how two people can have a different outlook, yet both be right. Two variations of the same picture were given to two sides of the classroom and asked what was seen, both sides had different answers. The students argued and neither side could come to an agreement that both arguments were correct; except for a few students who tried to see the alternate perspective.…

Throughout his fourth walk, Rousseau continually compares truth and justice, and he even goes so far as to link the two. Rousseau discusses the differences between truths that are owed, which is calls general truths, and truths that are not owed, which he calls particular truths. In addition to this, he also discusses the differences between fictions and lies. Rousseau mentions that justice is to give what to each what is owed, and he states that justice and truth are synonymous. For the most part, Rousseau’s claims are logical, but there are some discrepancies in his theories.…

    Definition Of Truthiness

In the video, it is implied that truthiness is used by people who do not think by facts, but by the first thought that come into their mind. The second definition of truthiness, reminds me of how people react to psoriasis. Many people believe that it's contagious and try to avoid being near the "infected" person. I relate to psoriasis like the example in the book of AIDS in the movie "Philadelphia." The character judged "a book by it's cover" without taking time to think about the truth behind the matter.…

437358 Dr. Schechter Philosophy of Mind Final Paper Absolute Uncertainties: An Argument in Knowing that we Cannot Absolutely Know Anything One philosophical quandary that’s worth discussing is the certainty of truth and whether humans will ever be able to ascribe absolute certainty to truth and its conditions. In considering both the empirical and theoretical dangers of positing absolute conclusions to complex philosophical questions, I don’t think we’ll ever be able to absolutely reject or accept the possibility of certain truth in this world. Therefore, in this paper, I will set out to argue that this question in the certainty of truth has not and will not ever be sufficiently answered within our current scope of knowledge.…

Truth and Reality are influenced by a person 's perceptions of the world. This is clear in Atonement as Robbie is accused of a heinous crime and both he and Cecilia suffer because Briony naïvely presumes she understands the complexities of adult relationships, and in an effort to protect her sister, she accuses Robbie of rape. A character is only able to perceive as much as he or she understands about the world, as his or her worldview is clouded by weakness and flaws.…

Honor Everyone has their own personalised definition of honor. It's seen as a rank on a certain subject, keeping your image or fulfilling what an individual was bound to do, or could be seen as a privilege. I define honor as having pride in who you are and what you do, being honest and noble, constantly doing selfless acts while putting others before yourself. Today’s modern dictionary definition of honor is to have high respect or esteem (Dictionary.com), but the way in which we define honor as a whole, has changed over time.…

Receiving the call that my aunt had passed away in a car crash was very shocking to me and the whole family.
