The etymology of the word angel is derived from the mixture of old English engel and old French angele, both words originated from Latin word angelus, from Greek angelo. The Hebrew word for angel is mala'ak. Angels are referred to as a messenger of the covenant, a medium, an interpreter and one that announces as they are used as God's messengers. The Old English word that was used as the word angel was aerendgast, meaning errand spirit. An angel is defined as a spiritual being believed to act as an attendant, agent, or messenger of God, conventionally represented in human form with wings and a long robe. The belief of angels started in Jewish history and extended to Judaism, Christianity and Mohammedanism.
According to Abrahamic religions, angels are referred to as a spiritual being that is superior to human beings in both power and knowledge. It is said that angels are normally depicted as obtaining the shape of human beings of remarkable beauty. Angels are usually described as amicable, good hearted, appalling, and are gifted with the wisdom and knowledge of earthly events. Their knowledge of earthly events may not always be precise. Gabriel is the messenger sent by God to man to deliver His message. The name Gabriel means man of God. The angel that is said to be the most powerful in the Bible is named Michael, which means who is like the Lord. He is known as the archangel Jude chapter 9, meaning he is the highest in the order of angels and is linked to the resurrection in the book of Daniel. 10:13; 12:1, 2; and 1 Thessalonians 4:19. Lucifer originally had a high place in heaven as it is stated in book of Isaiah 14:12, perhaps the highest above all angels, but he was exiled from heaven because of his desire to rise above God.
