The dictionary defines courage as the ability to do something that frightens one. Everyone has courage, you see it everyday and everywhere, whether you know it or not. Some acts of courage are bigger than others, but it doesn't mean small acts aren't important. You don't have to go into a burning building to have courage. Maybe all you have to do is stand up for someone or admit you like something even if your peers think that makes you strange. Sometimes courage is doing a simple act not because you want to, but because you know there is a greater good. One important act of courage for me was donating my hair for Mini-Thon. My luscious locks were a part of my identity, everyone always told me I had beautiful long hair. What truly makes it different is its red color that has beautiful blonde highlights in the summer time. For some people hair is just hair, but to me it's a special component to my identity. Haircuts for most people are not a life changing event, but I was about to cut my hair in front of all my peers. …show more content…
The whole month of January I was stressed thinking about it, but I just kept telling myself it's a good cause. Finally, it was the night. I walked to the LGI, met my hairdresser, and soon had two long ponytails waiting to get cut. I started to think do I really want to do this, so I took a deep breath and knew what the right thing to do was. With tears in my eyes, I felt her lift the first ponytail. I'll admit it, I cried.
