I believe that it is the integrity and consistency of a person that can define them and how they can be a “promise” to somebody and that is why I believe that my parkour coach is a …show more content…
My first class went as much as someone could expect from a first lesson in anything, not as good as I imagined. But, my coach spoke to the class, and to the newer faces, and made us a promise that we will get better through our hard work and practice. He also promised that he would continue to help us improve for as long as we were there. Do not make promises that can't be kept. If the word promise isn't mentioned, then it is not a promise. In Brokaw a man named Bob Bush didn't directly make a promise to his mother before he went to war as a paramedic, but he did tell her something that he more than likely thought would help her cope with him leaving. Bob Bush told his mother, “Mom, I'm going into the service to help people, not to kill them.” He is implying to her that he isn't planning on killing anyone, that his intentions are to help them.…

One piece of advice that really stuck with me was, “ It’s not how hard you hit. It’s how hard you get hit… and still get up.” (Pausch 147). I think this is an important piece of advice, because a lot of times in life people will only focus on the how bad you lost instead of hard you worked to get to where you are. I truly believe that working hard to get somewhere is better than getting there out of pure luck.…

I felt that all my hoped and dreams in this world had been crushed by one decision. Soon after the first Junior Varsity practice I was no longer upset but motivated. I thought how lucky I was to be given an opportunity to play a game at any level and that I have a chance to help redeem the team from last year. This year I changed my mindset from losing to be improving each day. I put so much time and effort into a sport that I love and was going to play with as much heart as possible.…
