Improved Essays
The concept of friendship is both odd and extraordinary at the same time. The majority of people on this earth want to be surrounded by other people who think like them, talk like them, and agree with them. Most people look for friends as someone who will listen, give advice or basically go out to have a good time with. That being said, people also look for friends as someone who they can connect to.

For example, one day I was playing basketball for my church team, when a new kid from Texas showed up and wanted to play. The new kids name was Andrew, and he was extremely shy. For a lack of better words, Andrew was extremely nerdy looking, short, had a weird haircut, and wore glasses. So we let him play and by the end of the game, him and I became friends. To this day, we’re still friends and we probably will be until we off to college. He wants to move back to Texas and attend the University of Texas, which is in Austin. Whereas I want to attend the University of Oklahoma which is in Norman.

Those who surround us can change our outlook on life as well as change the way we live in a negative or positive way. Friendships is the unit that many look to in their times of need, for advice, or just someone to talk to in general. However in this world these “friendships” that exist “overlook philia, the slower-burning and longer lasting complement” (Akst 84). Askt brings about the idea of all of the “friends” that one may have but the friendship that we possess is “diluted” and will not fulfill the true meaning of friendship being “uniquely suited to fill the void because unlike matrimony or parenthood, it’s available to everyone, offering concord and even intimacy without aspiring to be all consuming” (Akst 85). Friendship as well as the idea of it is arisen throughout the entire novel, creating…
