What is socially anxiety? How do people get it? How is it different than other anxieties? Living with social anxiety can be hard, I would know. I have it. I’ve known that I’ve had social anxiety ever since I was 10, that would’ve been fifth grade for me. There are a lot of different causes of social anxiety, but for me it was bullying.
It took over my life, I became afraid to do anything in front of other people because I was afraid they would call me “stupid” or “ugly” or say what I thought everyone else was already thinking. In one article I read from the National Institute of Health called “Social Phobia (social anxiety disorder) Always Embarrassed” They described social phobia or as many people know it social anxiety to be a “strong” or excessive fear of ridiculed or “judged” by the people around you. Another article written by Thomas A Richards who has a Ph.D. in psychology for his organization known as the Social Anxiety Association. First of all to start things off let me tell you about triggers. A trigger is when someone is put in a place or experiences an event that temporarily upsets them or “triggers” something inside them, in many cases it can be sadness, anger, or even fear. But for what we’re talking about its anxiety, and not just regular anxiety its social anxiety. Trust me it's different. Physical symptoms may show as well; these may include heart racing, confusion, sweating, shaking, muscle tension, upset stomach, and even diarrhea. Children who have this disorder may express their anxiety by crying, clinging to parent, or even throwing a tantrum.
