Relationships. This is a word that means different things to different people. For instance, various age groups, cultures, races, and social classes will think of relationships differently. The term will be defined completely differently from person to person. What does this word really mean? According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, relationships are defined as the way that two or more people, groups, or countries talk to, behave toward, and deal with each other, or a romantic or sexual friendship between two people. This is a very shallow definition of relationship. I cannot bring myself to agree with it. This may serve as a very good general definition, but the term “relationship” has a much deeper meaning. Everyone has a dream guy or girl. This doesn’t include the woman crush Wednesday and man crush Monday romance, or the Tumblr love where he will buy her surprise cups of Starbucks coffee, leaving them on her front porch for her to discover. This isn’t about the relationships that develop just because each individual is bored with their relationship status, wants someone to count on to text them back, and to be available to hang out at all times. No one fantasizes over a superficial relationship. Everyone longs to find true romance. Romance that sweeps you both off your feet before either of you realizes it. Romance that eventually leads to a realistic happily-ever-after. This kind of romance should create a connection where both individuals are interested in each other and genuinely care for one another. As the relationship moves forward, the other person should become your best friend. That is, unless your partner wasn’t your best friend to start out with. Everyone wants someone to spend the rest of his or her life with, a best friend to fall asleep with night after night, a shoulder to cry on, and an outstretched hand to help you up when you
