Definition Essay On Respect

As Americans, we were born and raised to be the best, and to live by the Golden Rule. Where does all this originate from? My opinions are Respect, and basic common courtesies. We have different views and types of ways to be respectful, but are they all correct? My biggest question has always been who makes these rules and how do you respect something the right way. I learned what respect was from my parents and extended family. Respect means to always listen to other ideas, and never assume you are better than anyone else. The people under you must respect you as a leader and you must show them respect for them to listen and follow you through whatever may occur. If someone that leads have no respect then they will have a hard time having people work for and follow them. People that are above you also look for respect, because of promotions and the work setting, and meetings that may happen. You could be the hardest worker but if you don’t have respect for anything then you may not succeed, then ultimately get demoted or fired. Respect is treating everyone equally. It means recognizing that every individual is a person of worth. I believe it means to accept others without judgement, unique backgrounds, talents, and different abilities. Respect has different meanings to everyone though. When I personally show respect by the way of treating or thinking something about someone or a thing. If I don’t like someone then most likely I will not show them a lot of respect. My final opinion on respect is that you should positively show it every day. In some ways, this correlates to your attitude. Everyone likes a respectful person, especially in the working field. Respect takes time to learn and alter, but once you catch on you have it.
