Nelson Mandela once said, “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes naturally to the human heart than its opposite.” Race refers to a person's physical characteristics, such as bone structure and skin, hair, or eye color. Ethnicity, however, refers to cultural factors, including nationality, regional culture, ancestry, and language. No one is born with a choice of choosing which race or ethnicity they want to belong. For instance, imagine this, you being a newcomer and a freshman who is aching to show the school pride decided to go to your first ever American football home game, at your high school. And at the end of the night, you get asked on a date by your high school’s football team linebacker (which is considered to be a pretty big deal) but being an Indian girl, especially who grew up in India for most of the life, dating is considered to be a taboo, so saying no and rejecting one of school’s precious boy do seem to turn the crowd around and look at you like you’ve grown some kind of horn. But this incident is something that you would consider to be a “petty” problems. Because there are some rules in every religion and race that would forever be a part of you, which would sometimes disappoint you, but you’ve got to learn to look around it and focus of positive things. Coming from a mixed race school in New Jersey, had it’s own perks. Students learned to appreciate other cultures and looked pass the racial differences. If you are from different ethnicity, you are considered to be a gem in the school, because it gives everyone an opportunity to learn more about other race, religion, culture, and ethnicity. So one must just learn to embrace whatever or whoever they
