“A firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values” is how the Merriam Webster dictionary defines integrity. Integrity is one of the fundamental values that employers seek in the employees that they hire. It is the trademark of a person who demonstrates sound moral and ethical principles at work or in any aspect of their life. Honesty and trust are fundamental to integrity. Acting with honor and truthfulness are also basic tenets in a person with integrity. They are principled and can be counted on to behave in honorable ways even when no one is watching.
Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote that, “Character is higher than intellect”. Does having integrity have a lot to do with ones character? People who demonstrate integrity draw others to them because they are trustworthy and dependable. Integrity is the quality of having high moral principles, of being reliable and trustworthy. It is something we are all the time in all aspects of our lives like at work, home, school, etc. Integrity is having a set of core values that you live by on a consistent, daily basis. Having a set of values that remind you to stay humble, treat others like you would want to be treated, and refusing to be offended by others actions. Consistently trying to be an exemplary to others. It takes having the courage to do the right thing, no matter what the consequences will be. Building a reputation of integrity takes years, but it takes only a second to lose, so never allow yourself to ever do anything that would damage your integrity.
