Tips to Happiness

1. Happiness is not directly proportional to money.
Sometime in the 70s, a team of researchers extensively followed people who had won a big lottery. Initially, they were extremely happy. But after a year, they found that those people were no more happy than the ones who had not won any lottery.
So one cannot be dependent on money to be happy. Human beings are a greedy species. We want more than we already have, and that affects our happiness level.
“I have learned how much money can happiness buy. Very little.” - Rick Pitino

2. Stop comparing ourselves with others.
We always have a benchmark for happiness. Often the benchmark depends on others. If we feel that others are living a more enjoyable life, we tend to feel a

Smile at everyone you see.
This is the most underrated trait a person can possess. Science tells us that when we smile, whether we are happy or sad, our mood gets elevated. You would not know how much your smile would mean to that woman suffering from depression, that kid who got a scolding in his school, that man who is unemployed, and that girl who got cheated. You can't do anything for them, yet make them feel better.
“Smile at strangers and you just might change a life.” - Steve Maraboli

4. Trust your gut feeling.
Most of us think that we are stuck in the wrong job. But why? That is because we are too afraid to take that risk. We want to move out of the depressing job, but then the thoughts of failing takes over our dreams. Questions like 'what will others think of me?' should not even come to your mind (unless you are going to do something bad)
"If you end up with a boring miserable life because you listened to your mom, your dad, your teacher, your priest, or some guy on television telling you how to do your shit, then you deserve it." - Frank

Take care of you health. Exercise everyday. You do not have to go to a gym for that. Simple freehand cardio exercises, meditation, yoga, and healthy eating habit can help your body and mind become happy.
“The groundwork for all happiness is health.” - Leigh Hunt

6. Learn to forgive and let go.
In a study published by Harvard researchers conducted in 2011, in American Sociological Review, people who could forgive easily had a much better cardiovascular health compared to those who could not. They were even more jolly than the latter.
Remember Carl from Up. He loved Ellie more than anyone else in the world (including himself), and how much he loved her chair after her death. But when there was a bigger call (call for adventure - something she loved the most), he let go of her chair.
“Forgiveness and letting go are steps on our road back to happiness.” - Tina Dayton

7. It's the little things.
You don't have to be dependent on a dream to be fulfilled to become happy. Happiness is all the joyful things that happens during a day. For instance, you read a comment on 9gag that made laugh uproariously, a stranger gave you a compliment, you reached office on time, or you got a free chocolate with your grocery shopping. It is really the little things that leads to

We have all heard the saying, “Money can’t buy happiness.” But if this is true, why do we devote our lives to the pursuit of wealth? Psychologists, philosophers, and countless others have proposed numerous theories for what factors actually lead to happiness, and whether or not material wealth generates happiness. For example, some believe happiness comes purely from one’s mindset, while others believe behaviors and actions bring about happiness, and some believe a significant portion of happiness is genetic. Nevertheless, experts and ordinary people alike continue to debate the question of how much material wealth contributes to happiness.…

Defining happiness is an incredibly difficult idea to portray. Different things make different people happy and there are so many ways that a person could express what happiness means. Webster’s Dictionary defines it as an agreeable feeling or condition of the soul arising from good fortune or propitious happening of any kind and the possession of those circumstances or that state of being, which is attended with enjoyment. Researchers claim that up to half of a person’s happiness comes from their genes. However, happiness is not determined by your biological makeup, but rather your mindset and the external influences around you.…

One must only look at what people do” (Porter 460). We choose to work and make money to benefit our happiness.…
