Definition Essay On Happiness

Happiness is something that is being sought by everyone. Some people would do some crazy things in an effort to be happy. However, it may not be too difficult to be happy if you know that you have the choice to be happy.

Yes, it may sounds a little unbelievable, but it’s true. Your happiness depends on you and you only. No one else can make you happy, not a boyfriend, a fiancée, or even a best friend. You’re the only one who’s in charge of your happiness, until you realize that I’m sorry to say it, but you may be unhappy for awhile. Do you know why? It’s because happiness is a choice.

From an entry written by Tom Valeo and reviewed by Doctor Louise Chang,

“Psychologists who study happiness ― including Lykken ― believe we can pursue happiness.

Once the body is feeling good the person gets happy. In this sense, smiling more often can actually help you to be happy, and a nice beautiful smile won’t cost you a thing, while it has so much importance.

Care about others: Like they say “Caring is loving” and with love comes happiness. Caring about others means that you’re always ready to help them when needed. If you can put a smile on someone else’s face by giving a hand, you’ll feel the same way just because you were able to make some else smile. By making someone who’s in need smile you’re also making yourself happy.

Don’t worry too much about what people think of you: Others can break your happiness if you don’t control your emotions. Controlling your emotions is one factor that’s very important when it comes to happiness. Don’t listen to the negativeness that others are associating with you. The only person who really knows yourself is you. You may be living with someone in the same house for all of your life; this person will never know you the way you know yourself. So, when someone is putting you down, raise yourself, don’t let this person win over you. You should always be in charge of your emotions.

Happiness, expressed in an everyday sense, is a mental or a psychological state of being sound and well defined by positive energy or joy. One may feel happy in a different manner, and due to a different reason than another. For example, one may be happy to win a million dollar lottery, whereas another may be happy to just to be alive. It is subjective when it comes to interpreting happiness as it differs with every individual. As a matter of fact, happiness compels an individual to embrace their passion and do what they truly believe in.…

The path to happiness is not an easy one, nor avoiding the other unpleasurable states of emotions. “A state of well-being and contentment” is how Merriam-Webster defines happiness. Happiness helps achieve a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction in one’s life. And without happiness, the world would look black and white; simply dystopian and meaningless. As demonstrated in both Ray Bradbury’s novel, Fahrenheit 451 and in reality, people can take different approaches to search for happiness and that is acceptable until it begins to take a toll.…

Defining happiness is an incredibly difficult idea to portray. Different things make different people happy and there are so many ways that a person could express what happiness means. Webster’s Dictionary defines it as an agreeable feeling or condition of the soul arising from good fortune or propitious happening of any kind and the possession of those circumstances or that state of being, which is attended with enjoyment. Researchers claim that up to half of a person’s happiness comes from their genes. However, happiness is not determined by your biological makeup, but rather your mindset and the external influences around you.…

Everyone has their own individual definition of happiness. Richard Taylor describes happiness as “a state of being, not a mere feeling” (Taylor, 116), but how may one come to this total state of fulfillment? Vivien Sung who wrote Five-Fold Happiness and Richard Taylor who wrote a chapter on happiness in his book An Introduction to Virtue Ethics both agree that happiness is made up of many different parts. Because happiness is made up of different components, achieving prosperity, longevity, and wealth are three elements that can lead to being fully…

What is happiness? You can ask this question to a thousand people, and you’ll get a thousand answer . These answers are usually versions of one another, tweaked ever so slightly to custom fit to our own personal lives and experiences. My take on happiness deals more with perspective and the basic goods. Meaning, we live in a world where approximately 3.1 million children die from hunger each year (worldhunger.org). The simple fact that my myself and family do not have to worry about where our next meal is coming from is a blessing which keeps me happy. Therefore, knowing that I’m in a good place in the world and knowing that I have the basic things to survive like food, water, and shelter, keep me happy. One could say that I was lucky to have been born in a country that offers so much.…

Also, it is misleading to mix between happiness as a wonderful feeling and the causes of happiness. For example, when I was in my senior year of high school, I applied to a scholarship to study in the US, but the acceptance rate was very low for international students. In fact, it was that station of my life, where I exerted all my mental and physical effort in order to gain this golden opportunity to study what I love. Despite the fact that it was truly hard to get this scholarship, I was one of those five students who got the scholarship. I was in my room in my high school dorm when I received the scholarship acceptance notification.…
