Definition Essay On Goals

Everyone has a goal, but what exactly is a goal? One definition of the word goal is “the object of a person's ambition or effort; an aim or desired result”. So, one might ask themselves, is a goal a short term ambition or something we strive to reach by the end of our lives? Do we set small ones along the way that lead to a bigger one or just one giant goal? There are many ways to define a goal and what it means. I believe we should each have the power to define goal as it relates to our self and what motives us in our search for happiness.
When you are little, you don’t spend time thinking what your goals are or what you want them to be in the future, but you always get asked the same question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”

I work well with others, I am a productive member of a team, I strive for my personal best in all things, and I always continue even after I have fallen short of my own or others expectations. When little I often won first place in my age division for my solo performance, but as I continued to grow the skill level increased and became more of a challenge and I began to fall behind. I consistently went to practice and went through the motions but realized I was not giving it my all. Consciously knowing that you could have been something much better then what you actually were is one of the worst feelings. I had let myself down, and as a result I began to work harder and harder and in 2010 I had my moment. I won the title for best solo in my age division at the last dance competition of the season. Reaching that personal goal of winning pushed me to try even harder every day and the older I got the more I understood that I could have been and even today still can be an amazing dancer if I just put my entire soul into the movement. The revelation that my hard work could bring personal reward, and previous inspiring moments in my life have taught me to never give up when times are tough. The accolades and satisfaction I will feel later will make it all worth it in the …show more content…
Through practice, I have experienced firsthand the feeling of absolute elation when doing something well, something I took the time to nurture and cultivate. Throughout my years in dance I have been trained by an array of instructors. The one thing that always amazed me was their inspiration, their emotion through movement, and their passion for teaching and performing. They leave everything out on that floor and I wish to do the same. That is my goal. I want to inspire people as I have been inspired. I want to share my personal passion for dance with others, just as others have shared that passion with me. I want to tell stories through my movement, and I want a performance of mine to inspire others to do something with passion, whether it be in dance or in everyday life. I want to move people as I have been moved by so many others in my

Apart from the physical technique, dance has developed my identity and given me some useful skills. It has given me independence and self discipline. Dance teachers can give corrections to one student and the entire class is expected to apply the instruction. This gives dancers like myself the self control and self discipline to correct themselves when they falter, to admit their faults, and to take correction without insult. It also gave me the ability to sew and use my resources.…

Every pirouette and grande jeté felt so liberating and suddenly, I was dancing the final steps in the choreography. After my solo was complete, I curtsied, concluding my performance. The audience cheered as I bowed, making all of the endless rehearsals, challenging corrections and taxing preparations worthwhile. As a young girl, who simply twirled in a circle until she was dizzy, I couldn’t have imagined my ballet technique would lead to opportunities such as this. Although I didn’t always love the challenging aspects of ballet, I have grown to find passion, self-confidence and excitement through the art form.…

From a young age, as a little girl who was initially forced to do ballet, dancing has opened up a level of creativity where I can challenge, strengthen, and utilize the art of dance in all realms of learning, from the stage to the classroom to my own introspection. Through movement, dance has allowed me to express my emotions, thoughts, and even words – as demonstrated in my “rocketry dance” – and emancipate myself from physical and mental confinement. Throughout high school I joined Mexican Folklorico and the Bollywood and Tahitian dance clubs, which intensified a passion for learning movement of different techniques, forms, and cultures. I challenged my own ability by creating my own movements and sharing that personal choreography with others. Performing at school assemblies washed adrenaline waves over me as I shared a personal choreography while the dancing made me feel skilled with grace, rhythm, and art.…
