Feminism may seem to some, as an audacious notion that women should be able to move as freely as men and have the same inalienable rights. Those people are correct. Feminism is, by definition, the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men (Tan).
In a world where men and women equality is encouraged, women wouldn’t have to feel threatened, be harassed, or be the victim of a sexual assault while executing daily tasks. Women would feel more empowered and confident rather than ashamed or embarrassed. They would simply be free to live their lives how they please. A womans purpose is not to entertain, to look after the house, raise the children, look ‘pretty’ all day. Women have the ability to execute the same jobs as men just as good if not, better. She is notorious for writing songs about exes and previous relationships. Everybody knows that, everybody makes jokes about it. Sure, she is empowered and confident, but how come we never hear anything about Ed Sheeran or Bruno Mars? Their songs are about past relationships. Is it because they are men? Are they more respected? All I know is that it happens often and, it shouldn’t always be acceptable. Being girls, we are taught to stay away from boys because they have cooties. This sticks with us all for the rest of our lives. We shouldn’t be afraid to walk home late, go to parties, wear certain styles of clothing, us girls should be able to walk home without the fear of a stranger walking too closely, go to parties without feeling like you are the prey, and be able to feel comfortable in your own skin.
