The sin that is becoming more noticeable is envy. It can be found throughout high school, relationships and it is portrayed on television. Why must we feel the need to have everything someone else has? We are constantly looking in the mirror and wishing what our lives could have been if that one thing did not happen or if it happened a certain way. You look the way you do and dress the way you do for a reason. People can probably envy someone and not realize it, but it is what goes about it: the consequence, rejection, anger and the competition that all comes out at once when someone is envious of another. We cause envy by not liking our own value, which is also known as low self-esteem. We admire those who have reached a higher stature than us because we tell ourselves that we cannot do it. By admiring it, leads us to work even harder to reach the same level they have and sometimes that causes anger on ourselves because we wonder why we are doing it? We often get confused on the word envy and jealousy. Although the words are both built on other emotions, they mean two different things, while envy is wanting what someone else has, jealousy is wanting what your loss. If anyone becomes envious of another person, they probably won’t admit to anyone, very unlikely if they do. It is stated that “envy is subtlest and the most insidious of them all” (Epstein).
