Determination is not something we are born with; it is something harnessed deep down inside. I am not talking about determination as the resolving of a question by argument or reasoning. Determination is a will strong enough to drive us to accomplish our goals. Will power is very important in utilizing determination; it is what drives us to achieve greatness. Determination has been around ever since man was created and it has helped to shape the world as it is today. Human history has come a long way through challenges and struggles. Due to challenges encountered on a daily basis, humanity now can realize the premise of determination and use it to its full potential. The three works Shinny Game Melted the Ice by Richard Wagamese, The First Day by Edward P. Jones, and Just Lather That's all by Hernando Téllez, clearly exemplify the theme of determination through its impact on decision making, its effect upon others, and how it forms relationships between the protagonists and the antagonists. Community Essay Determination is an important quality of a member in a thriving community. I found this quality in many texts that I read and it really stood out to me. The story I found determination in was “Gamers to the End” and a video called “Backwards Brain Bicycle”. “Backwards Brain Bicycle” is about a guy that learns how to ride a backwards bicycle. He demonstrates determination because the guy says “I practiced for 8 months, and 5 minutes every day.”…

Self-Determination Theory "Self-Determination theory (SDT) is an approach to human motivation and personality that uses traditional empirical methods while employing an organismic metatheory that highlights the importance of humans’ evolved inner resources for personality development and behavioral self-regulation"(Ryan & Deci, 2000, p. 68). Within this paper onee will discuss the correlation between SDT and motivation in relations to personal individual growth, and professional development. Determining Motivation "Self-determination theory suggests that there are different types of motivation, such that people vary not only in level of motivation but also in the source or quality of that motivation. At the same time, SDT postulates a continuum of autonomy to order those types of motivation" (Chemolli & Gagne, 2014, p. 575). Motivation is derived from the desire of the nature at hand; the interest of the specified subject, will determine the depth of the motivation.…

In everyday life, it is important to overcome obstacles and complete tasks that one may not wish to complete. Therefore, people often need a driving force or a reward to aim for in order to complete that task. Identifying this has allowed me to understand what pushes me. Through my own exploration, I have had the ability to identify my goals and what motivates me to complete these, such as finishing school work. As a result of the knowledge that I have gained about this topic, I have identified myself as someone who is more extrinsically motivated than intrinsically motivated.…
