Courage Essay: The Definition Of Courage

The way I look at the definition of courage is quite simple for me. Being courageous means doing something without a direct benefit to yourself, the act of doing something while knowingly putting yourself in some form of danger of some sort. This means, the higher the chances of danger and the higher the risks, the more courage it requires. This is especially true if there is no direct reward for the person being courageous. The value of courage lies not in the act itself, but the intentions and motivations behind it. Here I show a few examples featuring possible ways of being a true courageous person.

For example hypothetically speaking a student(A) in school knew something about another student(B); suppose they had something they shouldn't have in the school. Student(A) goes to the teacher and lets them know even though they dont want to “snitch” or is worried everyone else might be mad at him but still does the right thing. I would say he is in fact courageous for standing up and doing the right thing, even if he thought the kids would be mad at him or call him a names. Which leads me to; for an act to be courageous it must not always be something you want to do. Being brave means always being ready to endure or face pain or risk. People who choose to help out a person who is being robbed are certainly courageous and quite an admirable acts, even smaller occurrences can count as acts of courage. For example, confronting a bully at school shows bravery and courage.

For an act to be courageous it must be something helpful. Hypothetically speaking if i returned home and my house was on fire and my dog or family member was still in the house the firemen are a great example. They are doing there job being courageous and doing something helpful for the community, people they dont even know personally. They are taking the risk that we cannot do to be helpful for
