Take bowling for an example, many will agree that bowling doesn't take much physical ability and one does not have to be physically fit to play the sport, but still most bowlers will classify themselves as athletic; this may be due to the unclear definition but they shouldn’t be classified as athletic because they are not physically active. Many sports have athletic people that participate in athletic activities and are fit including swimming, which people consider to be an athletic sport, due to all the cardio training and intense workouts. But even though there is an abundance of athletically inclined people and activities, there are people on swim teams that should not be considered athletic. The McGraw-Hill concise Dictionary of Modern Medicine defines physical fitness as,”A state of physical well-being and higher-than-average tolerance to cardiovascular activity.” This definition supports how being physically fit and having the skill to perform is an important contributor to being athletic, if one has a higher than average tolerance to cardiovascular activity or any activity it shows that, that individual has practiced to gain that tolerance and has built up that “physical well-being.” Therefore, being physically fit allows the athlete to withstand and increase their ability to succeed in the activity or sport that they practice and participate in due to the athletic physique they have accumulated from the practice of said
