People today often perceive beauty as a superficial idea. As Merriam-Webster's dictionary defines it, “beauty is the quality or qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or mind”. In this case, beauty is only defined by physical appearance and attractiveness; it is something that is appealing to the eye at first glance and calculated by physical means. However, beauty should not only be referred to because of one’s physical appearance, rather, it should also be seen through a person’s internal character and personality.
Most people see one’s beauty first by their physical appearance. They tend to base their opinions on how someone’s body looks compared to the confines of society today. Their classifications are categorized by a person’s physical attributes, including size, shape and skin. But it is not only the fault of the perceiver, rather media of all sorts promotes the need to change ones body if it does not fit into societal standards.
