A sickening number of people lost their lives, and others were scarred for life. However, during this time of loss, people stepped up and carried out superhuman feats, saving countless lives. In addition, the response to the horrible acts was a tremendous display of the community bonds within America. Aside from terrorism, a second type of adversity a country faces is national disasters. These can cause as much or more devastation as the prior, and happen alarming often. One recent example is Hurricane Matthew, which killed hundreds in Haiti, even before it touched Florida, where it killed countless more.
