To me vanity is when you take pride to far and brag about your accomplishment, as a kid going to church I never understood the full meaning of the word “vanity” because I do not believe I had the mental grasp of the meaning but once I got older I began to understand what it meant. To me it meant taking pride one step farther and speaking or bragging about your accomplishments. It made me feel good to speak of what I have done that no one I know had done. Our meaning on this earth is to empower one another to rise to a higher level. The dictionary defines vanity as excessive pride in one's appearance, qualities, abilities, achievements, etc.; character or quality of being vain(dictionary N.D.). …show more content…

My assertion from Waldo is “Envy is ignorance.” I believe this means that if people envy everyone, like celebrities and millionaires they are ignoring their own individuality and their own talents which is wrong. They worry more about the person they are envying than they do about themselves causing them not to reach their full potential. My fact to support this is people like my friends want to be like Drake, or my dad wants be rich like Bill Gates, but in reality we know they can’t be them so they should just be themselves.…

According to Scripture, it is not noble to choose a short life with glory over a long life with no glory. Such a dilemma was posed to Achilleus in the Iliad. Either he could continue fighting on the battlefield in Troy and die with eternal glory, or he could return home and live a long life with a wife and children. Achilleus chose glory (kleos) over a homecoming (nostos). Although it appears as though Achilleus might have changed his mind on the battlefield, he changed his mind yet again before the war ended.…

In Kant’s Jealousy, Malice, and Ingratitude he writes that there are two methods by which men arrive at an opinion of their worth, by comparing themselves with the idea of perfection and by comparing themselves with others. Kant favors the first comparison over the latter suggesting that by comparing ourselves to perfect it is a constant and therefore we can move ourselves closer by improvement. In comparing ourselves to others however, this is not a constant in that there are many variables that that influences one’s perception of the other.
