What is a Hero? “It’s not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.”- Batman. According to dictionary.com, an online source, stated that a person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. A hero is not someone who is selfish, scared to do anything including in becoming a leader, and someone who is scared to stand up and fight for what they believe in. There are many different definitions of a hero. People have different opinions on what exactly is a hero. A hero doesn’t even have to be a man. A leader is a person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country. Firstly, Martin Luther King Jr used leadership to overcome racism. Specifically, Martin Luther King Jr used leadership to prevent racial discrimination in the 1930s-1960s Martin led many protests and rights movements. Therefore, Martin Luther King used his leadership skills to become a hero for many African- American citizens in the United States. Secondly, even fictional superheroes show leadership in some way. For example, Batman uses leadership when he creates the Justice League. This squad includes many other superheroes like Superman, Aquaman, and even Wonder Woman. Batman leads them into battles and keeps them sane and on the same team. Thus, Batman uses leadership as a massive trait in many things that he accomplishes. Thirdly, military have higher ranks that help keep leadership intact. Specifically, our troops are probably the closest and most recent heroes in history. They fight for our freedom and to protect American and all of our homes. They show leadership everyday by trusting those who are higher in rank and keep each other safe. Therefore, the U.S. military soldiers are considered heroes for their effort in keeping a whole country safe from intruders and non-Americans.
