Some of my biggest accomplishments have been achieved because of one honor I received years ago. At age 7 I was admitted into the Talented and Gifted (TAG) program. The TAG program is for unique students with an IQ over 120 who aren't being challenged by the school's typical curriculum. This program has presented some of the most delightful challenges and rewarded some of the sweetest accomplishments to my peers and I. The influence of the TAG program can be divided into three different factions: peer competition, challenges from my instructor, and diverse experiences outside of the classroom.…

Scholarship, service, leadership, and character are the characteristics that lay the foundation for success and are the reason why I perform at such a high degree in everything that I do. Although I’ve always had high ambitions for myself, the scholarship aspect of the National Honor Society confirms the importance of education and also reaffirms that anything is possible and it made easier with academic achievement. However, any achievement, academic or not, is meaningless to me if I don’t give back one way or another to the people who made my success possible including teachers, school staff members, fellow classmates, parents, and friends. On top of this, I learned that the smallest of gestures can make a big difference in someone’s life…

Teddy Roosevelt once said that nothing worth having comes easy. With this in mind, I have actively spent my high school years working to ensure that my success and achievements are fruits of hard work and perseverance, rather than sheer luck. These past four years, I have dedicated my young mind to absorbing the valuable knowledge that pools before me in my rigorous AP courses. In addition, I also invested a good portion of my time into my school’s band program. Although balancing academics and such a demanding extracurricular activity was difficult, I managed to find the time to also participate in very rewarding organizations such as National Honor Society, among others.…

If I had to choose one phrase to describe myself it would be, “Above and beyond the call of duty,” or as I like to say, “A and B the C of D.” It’s something I read in a book a long time ago that has always stuck with me. Tenacity, according to Dow, brings a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. Character formation comes from the constant pressing into practices or ideas that might not sit well. It is doing the very thing that one is not the best at. Further than that, tenacity is the desire to give your all and never give up. Dow considers intellectual fair-mindedness to be vital in today’s society.…

Gordon B. Hinckley had once said something along the lines of hard work paying off, if effort is enforced into the work. Over the years I’ve had in high school I have really absorbed the aspect of this, being able to work up and achieve opportunities for the preparation in the outside world. Seventh and eighth grade having to understand the concepts in the athletic sport tennis was hard for me to comprehend. Actually being able to have proper etiquette of holding a tennis racquet was key, but being able to hit a tennis ball was a ‘whole other ball game.’ All two years of playing tennis in middle school I can not remember a single time me nor my tennis partner won a match.…

Tenacity is the strength to persevere. How strong a person’s will and hope is can define how strong their tenacity is. People can display mental toughness for short periods, but that is not really tenacity. To be truly tenacious, people must tolerate the intolerable and suffer through the insufferable until they have reached their goal. Kayla Montgomery is a great example of this, she has M.S. which blocks nerve signals from her legs to her brain as her body temperature increases.…
