They are a one man band consisting of one man as the eternal leader of a country. The cream of the crop for dictators of the world is Kim Jong-Un, leader of North Korea, who even by dictator standards is extreme. He has absolute political power over the country. No one at all is allowed to speak out against him or his policies, not even his family such as when he executed his uncle for treason. At Least in other dictatorships there is a illusion that there is freedom. Sometimes I wonder why Kim Jong-Un even hangs on to his power. I mean, doesn't he wake up in the middle of the night thinking about the poor, innocent North Koreans he has imprisoned in hard labour camps and the abuse and fear that his country is experiencing every day? Doesn’t it affect him at all? Doesn't he realize what he is doing to human beings? By looking closely at what someone does when given power we can can more clearly judge their character and who they really are. How many politicians were elected with the promise of a better life only to completely u-turn on these policies and say that they can be done? To many to count. There is not much anyone can do to stop people in power abusing their position. Our attraction to power cannot be eliminated. It is part of our nature. I like to believe that there is two sides to a person, the animal and the human. The animal side consists of our primal emotions, flight, anger, fear and so on. The human side is unique to us. Animals can only feel what we feel to a limited capacity. Things like happiness, caring, sadness, selflessness, mourning, generosity, love and so on. We feel sympathy when someone is sad, laugh when someone laughs. Power only appeals to our animal side. Deep down, the animal within wants dominance, violence and power over others. This is encoded in every human and animal on earth, in our DNA. But by being human, we are given a choice, between choosing power, and choosing other humans. There is no mistaking the effect that power has on people. People unwilling to let go of power have caused some of the most bloody
