I agree with what George W. Bush stated regarding fearing- fear, although I don't believe it should be a valid reason as to why one must lose hope and expect the worst out of everything. Which leads to the other point on how fear can be manipulated into one. You see it all the times in the media how they twist and change stories up just to scare people into buying their story. Like Glassner stated school shootings can be seen as an example, where you have “sources” claiming the amounts of incidents are going up when in reality, once you look at statistics one sees juvenile crime rate actually decreasing. I find that very upsetting because nowadays we tend to rely highly on the media for our news resulting in falling for many false accusations.…

The system has created people living with fearing their own shadow. For example Glassner states, “Afraid to go out and buy groceries, they literally waste away in their homes. Fear had a prevalent hand in my childhood. It kept me from trying new foods (for fear of making myself sick) from playing outdoors (the threat of being bitten by bugs was pervasive) and even from going to the doctor (the needles on the shots were seemingly sharp). I was the type of kid who looked both ways before crossing the street, then decided against it in fear of the strangers on the other side. My eccentricities concerned my parents, but I was young, so they assumed that I would outgrow my insecurities.…
