The video was quite long and outdated; however, it is very helpful to me personally. I really like his first lesson, which is the Definiteness of Purpose. I think it is very important to have the “Definiteness of Purpose” as the starting point, because without a purpose, people will be lost. “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve regardless of how many times you may have failed in the past” to me, this quote by Napoleon Hill is priceless. It made me feel more confidence and motivation to go through my journey of life. It taught me that I can achieve everything if I believe in myself. The Weberian model of the U.S. class structure made me think of my grandparents who arrived in this country as working poor and eventually saw their children become part of the middle-class. It then made me realize how much things have changed for the middle-class over the last few decades. Neither of my parents finished high school and yet both were able to obtain gainful employment. It seems that back then the lack of a high school diploma did not automatically exclude a person from certain positions or the ability to advance within a company. By the time I entered the workforce, positions like the ones my parents started out in now required an applicant to have a high school diploma in order to qualify.…

Frankl and Hick talk about destiny and specific goals to plan out and reaching those goals. “What matters, therefore, is not the meaning of life in general but rather the specific meaning of a person’s life at a given moment.” Frankl focuses specific tasks that only the certain individual can do. Each person at multiple times in their life must have some sort of purpose, some sort of goal to obtain.…

Personally I really enjoyed Jeremy’s message and I believe he did an excellent job of connecting the points made in the book of Joshua to our day and age. He started his talk by sharing a story from his life where things were a little unexpected and this began to lead him into connecting the need to recognize that we serve a God who does things unexpectedly. Then he went into the story of how Joshua had to step into some pretty huge shoes and to fill those he had to trust God. Joshua was Moses’s right hand man, and he knew everything that Moses did, yet even Moses was not a person who was at the top of the list socially. When he explained the problems Moses had, he tied that point to how God even uses unexpected people.…

This example is about leadership. The video shows how easy it is to start doing something individually. If we start doing something by ourselves, other people are going to follow us. I think this example is related to Thoreau’s essay because Thoreau explains that individuals have power. He explains that we don’t need 1,000 people to do something; it takes only 1 person to make a change.…

Coach Wooden, in this reading, teaches me and many others who read how you can’t just wish for success, being successful is something you have to work at every day. Also, not only working everyday like getting more practice and more repetition, that is not what Coach Wooden is trying to teach here he teaches that being successful comes from inside. He explains how in order to be successful you have to have traits like loyalty, self control, confidence, cooperation, and of course skill. Reading about Coach Wooden’s Pyramid of Success is really something I agree with 100%, I am not sure if it is because I am also an athlete so I am able to relate to his motivation and his way of words. I mainly agree, because he is right about all that he says everything he mentions in the pyramid are all things you not only need to be a successful athlete, but to be a successful person which is why I agree with what Coach Wooden has to say so much, because anyone can read this book and learn from it not just…
