Defining Who I Am

I've faced a good bit of internal challenges that have defined who I am today. From a young age, I have struggled with severe anxiety and, more recently, depression (past 3 years) and disordered eating (past year). The reality of my future has always been a huge question mark followed by intense fear and a vow to never plan what I'm going to do with my life ever again (it never works by the way). I am enrolled in a community college and took 10 college classes in 11th grade instead of high school classes, which I will be doing again next year. I am actually on track to earn my associate's degree in liberal arts and sciences by the time I graduate high school. I have learned so much from this experience and have matured greatly because of it. Even though this is cliche, I have learned that you can do anything you want if you put your mind to it. I've also learned that a door closing in your life means another door is opening to something better, as long as you are open to it. Basically, sometimes things seem really bad and you think life is just full of disappointments, but you just have to remember that 1. you can get through anything if you decide that can can and you will, and 2. something better will always be just around the corner. And, for my last cliche saying (I promise!), "your value doesn't decrease based on someone's inability to see your worth." I have never been the most popular kid in school and I always let myself be defined by what other people thought of

High school was either going to help me make it or break it. Bell High School was not among the top high schools in my district. It was known for its high drop out rates, teen pregnancies, and gang violence. As I rushed to school attempting to finish my homework because I was not able to finish while babysitting, I always herd “Hey come take a hit “or “ look at this new product, try it out”, we all wanted to succeed, but nobody wanted to put in the time and effort to divert us from the wrong paths. Unfortunately, this led may students towards drug addictions and gang violence.…

There are many quotes and beliefs in the world that I believe and get motivated. Some quotes are from my parents, other family members, teachers, or friends. The quote that is most important for me is “The big secret in life is that there is no big secret. Whatever your goal, you can get there if you're willing to work,” by Oprah Winfrey, because I have experienced something in life that this quote has made me a different person today. It has been inspiring me to achieve my goals and never give up.…

In high school, I just lived in the moment enjoying not having responsibilities and living care free. To be honest I was not taught the essential things to becoming an adult and surviving on my own. It all started with my parents and the way I was raised. I am the baby of five kids and my mom was 39 when she became pregnant with me, so you could say I was the uh-oh baby.
