Gawain Powell E.A.1.1 What does culture mean to you? When people say culture, what do you say? How do you respond? Do you say the color of your skin? Do you say your race? Or are you actually defining your culture! Well let me tell you my culture.
When people say Gawain what your culture? I usually respond with black. I mean at the end of the day i'm just a regular black kid who wants a better life than the one he has now. But my culture is a little obvious. My culture is food, the looks people give a person like me, and sports are all apart of my culture.
Furthermore, with sports being in my culture that could easily dictate my race. I say sports because if i'm wearing something where you can't see my skin, and I hold out a football or basketball you would know my race, or culture much different from me holding up a baseball or a soccer ball. By looks I mean the way I dress, the way people view me. Is huge. I'm always viewed as a villain or a ghetto black kid. Said my teacher last year. If I walk by 100 people with a different culture than me. The first thing to their mind is almost automatically 100%negative. Just because I might wear baggy clothes and might not have the same intelligence you have doesn't mean i'm a certain way. But looks have defined my life, and family for years. The way I look is definitely in my culture.
There has been 1 major time where my culture has created conflict. Like how I was talking about food being in my culture. Well when I Was in a restaurant and I was ready to order when the waiter came. She was a white lady and she said you guys must want the chicken special. And my family and I were livid and felt that was disrespectful and stereotypical of her. So that created a huge conflict in the restaurant to the point we were thrown out. And we were thrown out over a small conflict and a lady bringing up a
