In the summer of 2014 I had many exciting moments, but this happened to be one I will never forget. The feel of flying with nothing to hold me back, I felt fearless in that moment. It took me a long time to get the strength I needed. I never thought trust for an animal could go this far.
On a warm summer day, the sky was blue and the grass had just been cut around the barn. The dusty barn had been cleaned and the sun seemed to shine brighter in the stable. I headed out of the main barn to the pastures, I carried a dirty red halter and light blue lead rope, ready to go catch my horse. I unlatched the gate making sure to close it behind me, I walked the soft dirt path to the gelding field, being followed by Buddy-- a black and white barn

As soon as I realized I was panicking I took a deep breath and focused on feeling every stride. I look forward pushed my heels down and felt every stride, I rocked back and forth with his smooth canter. I came down the line of the jump and time slowed even more as if it would stop at any moment, I began to panic again at the sight of the blue and purple twelve inch vertical rail. My heart pounded in my chest, a few more strides and we would be over the jump. I stopped thinking altogether and I found myself right in front of the jump and everything stopped. I flung off the side of Magic and hit the jump and the pole fell on my stomach, I looked to the side just in time to see Magic galloping in fear around the arena. What happened, what went wrong….I looked at him with disappointment and led him over to the mounting block, I stepped up on the mounting block not wanting to get back on, I knew he wouldn’t hurt me on purpose, but I still didn’t want to …show more content…
I picked up my canter from the walk, I sat deep into Magic’s back gliding with his smooth stride, he seemed to calm down quite a bit. I knew I wasn’t going be able to get Magic over the jump with over slow and steady cantered, I squeezed my legs and he cantered a little faster I tried to not have him be rushy, but at the same time still fast. I got used to the faster stride and pointed him down the line toward the jump, Magic’s ears went back and he started to slow I knew he was going to try to refuse so I gave him a hard quick and got a rushy cantered, we flew over the jump. I slowed him down, I couldn’t believe what we had just done. I heard a drop off a pole and turned to look at the jump, Stacy had put the jump up to eighteen inches. I cantered him toward the vertical and cleared it without a second thought. I cantered around the arena with my head up high, I looked at Stacy when she said to do a victory gallop. I squeezed him into his fast gallop and held on tight and galloped him around the arena, I smiled. I brought him back to a walk and patted him. I bent forward and hugged Magic’s neck, I was so proud of
