Defining Moment: A Short Story

It was a warm but windy summer afternoon, We were about to play in one of the biggest games in my life. I was starting to warm up and I heard from behind me someone say. “You ready.” “Heck yeah I am!” When I was done answering the question I had a smile big enough to make me look as if I had 1000 teeth. Coach yelled over. “Bring it in ladys, it's show time.” When we got over to the dugout he gave us a huge break down on to never stop and never give up. He also told us to have faith in ourselves and each other. We were informed by the umpire that we were to bat first so we all started warming up our swings. But before any of knew it, it was game time. The first pitch was thrown and it was a strike. A few batters passed and it was my turn to …show more content…
But he must have gotten tired because he gave up 3 runs and no outs and the bases were loaded. Coach came over to me and said. “Win us this dang game.” I nodded my head and knew this was it. When I got up on the mound, my heart was beating 1 million times a second. I threw the first pitch, to my relief it was a strike, I ended up striking him out. The next batter came up to bat. I got myself into a full count meaning if I throw a strike we are one step closer to winning, but if I throw a ball they tie the game and can possibly win. I take a deep breath and look into the crowd at my grandpa who is looking at me and I can see in his face, he's saying you're doing great relax. So I did. I threw that ball and it was a strike, I jumped in the air as if we had already won. The last batter stepped into the batters box. This was it, I threw the first pitch, another strike. Then another one and at this point I knew he was panicking. So I decided to throw a curveball to throw him off and it worked. The umpire had yelled. “Strike three, you're out.” That was the game, I ran and jumped into my coaches arms in celebration. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, it did! I was named MVP of the championship and received a game ball that said, “Pitching save in the clutch.” and it had the two teams which was green vs massillon. And also the final score of the game 9-8. Everyone was so proud of

First Home Run The pitcher steps on to the mound and is ready to pitch, and whoosh in comes a fastball and crack the way I hit the ball sounded like banging a hammer on a piece of metal and as I took off running I watched the ball sail out of the park for my first home run. As I rounded second base I could hear the voices of sister Larissa my mom Leeann and my dad John screaming for me and could feel a lot of excitement from the crowd. In this story I am going to tell you about when I hit my first home run and second home run and how doing such really amazing thing can humble you.. I stepped into the batters box with trembling hands. The sun beat down on me with rays that could cut through metal. The sweat was trickling down my forehead and into my eyes making it hard to see. The butterflies in my stomach were frantic causing my stomach to do flips. The game was tied at 7-7 in the last inning with two outs, not an optimum situation for any hitter out on the softball field of a championship game. There were two girls on base, one on second, the other on third. The sound of my metal cleats crushing the dirt filled my ears as I walked up to home plate. I knew I had to be resilient after striking out the time before. The intensity was ubiquitous and I could feel it from everyone around me.…

My very first baseball game I can remember it like it was yesterday. A hot sunny day Burning the pavement, the heat beating down on our car as we drive to downtown Houston. After three exhausting hours and two tire blowouts we finally arrived at Minute Maid Park the home of the Houston Astros, my first baseball game. Once we got past the security line we were free to go to our seats which were located in the middle of first and home. We got there about half an hour before the game started so the batters were out in the batting cage crushing the ball with a mighty swing, I was hypnotized by how gracefully they moved their…

“Potential”, the devils word I’ve never been a fan of the word “potential”, not potential energy, but rather someone’s possible ability to achieve something. Being told, you have so much potential if you just… or if you did… telling me I can make it if I just do what they say. In baseball, “You have the potential to hit a homerun every game if you just turn your hips and twist your foot as though you are squishing a bug”, I had dreamed of hitting a homerun, and when my coach said that to me, my mind took it to the next level. Challenging myself to always do “the perfect” technique when I hit, constantly practicing after school, and even private lessons, everyone said the same thing, you have potential. It had taken me a prolonged period of…

The decisive moment in the fight for Cuba came during the July 1 storming of San Juan Heights—famously by Colonel Theodore Roosevelt and his Rough Riders, though Buffalo Soldiers shared in the victory if not the glory. I never expected something bad to happen that day. It was my parents anniversary night, May 11th, 2017, and of course, I had a softball game. We knew that the opposing team was better than us, but we still played hard, until the accident, that is when everything fell apart. My parents anniversary night was on one of my last home games of the season, but not the teams. Our game was at the Hyatt Elementary softball/baseball fields.…
