Defining Marketing
Marketing is a vital aspect to every company for growth, longevity, and prosperity. According to "Marketing" (2014), “Marketing is the process of communicating the value of a product or service to customers, for the purpose of influencing buyer behavior and/or precipitate behavioral change.” Marketing, according to the Merriam-Webster (2014), is activities that direct the flow of goods and services from producers to consumers. My personal definition of marketing is a way of getting consumers to purchase a certain product that a company is manufacturing to increase the sales of the company. Marketing is about the value of the product and how the company can create a demand for the product.

Marketing will target specific types of people depending on the product being advertised. Johnson and Johnson is an organization that focuses on the overall health and wellness of people globally. This company looks at the Consumer Price Index to help them keep their net prices for health care products low. Johnson and Johnson also encourage employees to focus on customer needs and solutions through a decentralized management approach. This company is respected around the world and invests in innovative products keeping them at an advantage against competitors. Recognizable brand, public identity with products, accessibility, being an affordable company is all a part of the marketing strategy.
The Nintendo’s Wii started widening their marketing from adolescent boys to the health and fitness population. This company plans to incorporate their products into the daily lives of the world. Their new products that focus on having a healthy lifestyle through fun gaming helped the company increase their revenue 90%. They also expanded to rehabilitation centers and recreation centers which also created a revenue boost. Nintendo focused their products and marketing on the health and fitness craze and on people outside of their normal customer base to make their brand a bigger name. They also decided to include a free game with each unit which is a competitive difference used to Nintendo Wii’s advantage.
