The two article titles, “Happiness is Other People” by Ruth Whippman (2017) published on The New York Times and “The Secret to Deeper Happiness Is Simpler Than You Might Think” by Ginny Graves (2017) published on Health.com discuss on how happiness is misapprehended and defines how one is able to achieve happiness. The main point that Whippman’s article (2017) wanted to bring across to the readers is that happiness lies does not lie within rather it is more on engaging in human interactions, whereas in Graves’ article (2017), it states that lasting happiness does not come from materialistic possessions but can be from the simplest means or actions in accordance to your own values. The two articles have brought their points across to the reader, however I feel that Ginny Graves’ articles are more persuasive as compared to Ruth Whippman’s articles in terms of credibility, being more relatable more readers she is able to reach and having more testimonials in supporting her argument . Ginny Graves and Ruth Whippman were both considered are veteran authors with writing experiences of 30 years (Graves, n.d.) and 7 years (Whippman, n.d.) respectively, however when it comes to the topic of “happiness” both authors lack the credibility when trying to persuade the readers since this topic requires a great understanding…
Everyone’s life is full of calamity and learning experiences. We all live in a world where happiness is hard to find. For each of us happiness is something different. To define happiness is harder than to be happy. Because happiness is an emotion, a way of thinking, feelings and life itself.…
Happiness, expressed in an everyday sense, is a mental or a psychological state of being sound and well defined by positive energy or joy. One may feel happy in a different manner, and due to a different reason than another. For example, one may be happy to win a million dollar lottery, whereas another may be happy to just to be alive. It is subjective when it comes to interpreting happiness as it differs with every individual. As a matter of fact, happiness compels an individual to embrace their passion and do what they truly believe in.…

In Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, Clarisse McClellan asks Montag if he is happy. This questions sets off a spark in Montag’s head and creates a chain reaction for the story. Not only does it lead him to question himself, but it leads him to question his society. Happiness is fleeting yet lasting, concise yet complex. Clarisse leads him to perceive his life and his occupation differently.…
What is “happiness” and how is it obtained? The word “happiness” is defined as ‘a mental or emotional state of well-being defined by positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy’. The decisions people make on a day-to-day basis are to reach the ultimate goal of being happy. While everyone strives to obtain happiness, not everyone succeeds. In today’s society, happiness seems to be directly correlated with factors such as wealth or status.…
Happiness has different definitions and people interpret it in many different ways. In an article written by Rebecca Traister, she expresses her thoughts on women and how they are seen by society. In this article call “Screw Happiness”, she talks about the time when she was at a restaurant and was asked if everything was perfect. In that instant she started to look back at her life and how people have different point of views regarding happiness. Some people might see happiness as spending time with the people they love, they feel satisfied and do not want anyone else.…
n the conclusion of the second section in the first book, Jim told his audience exactly what happiness means to him. Jim’s definition states, “At any rate, that is happiness; to be dissolved into something complete and great. When it comes to one, it comes as naturally as sleep.” Even though this is Jim’s definition of happiness, I do not believe that Antonia would have the same outlook on the word as him. Throughout the book I have come across many examples to explain why I have this opinion.…
Why can happiness be hard to achieve for some? Some people are able to attain happiness through smaller goals, and some choose to pursue a more challenging path. Certain individuals must go through obstacles and the ignorant thought of the society they live in, to reach the contentment they desire. Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 and F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby both illustrate the protagonist’s difficulties towards their goals of happiness.…
Happiness Such a powerful word in American culture Much of my life, I had thought of happiness as a rather nebulous term. I also had some impressions that because I was fortunate enough to have been born in a first world country, happiness was just part of the package. That general disengaged and not important perspective changed about a decade ago when my wife and I learned that she had cancer. I needed to do some inner reflection for strength and direction.…
One Important standard for living is being able to be happy. Happiness can be found in many different types of forms. It can be found with the purchasing of specific objects that can improve our living styles, it can be found with someone else that we communicate with, or it can be achieved by doing actions that we choose to do. The latter is the more imperative of the designs of happiness. Happiness is a thing that everyone is striving for.…
My take on happiness deals more with perspective and the basic goods. Meaning, we live in a world where approximately 3.1 million children die from hunger each year (worldhunger.org). The simple fact that my myself and family do not have to worry about where our next meal is coming from is a blessing which keeps me happy. Therefore, knowing that I’m in a good place in the world and knowing that I have the basic things to survive like food, water, and shelter, keep me happy. One could say that I was lucky to have been born in a country that offers so much.…
I find that the definition of happiness depends on the person and circumstances, and to me happiness is not a mere emotion that I wish to have every single moment in my life. Happiness is a relative term that some people consider an expected result of doing good deeds, and I believe it is a memorable feeling that lies in the joy of achievement and the thrill of effort and always linked to a place in some way. In order to understand what happiness is, I looked into my past and tried to find out if there is a formula for happiness. From my perspective, the level of personal happiness fluctuates depending on the situation.…
