Defensive Lineman Research Paper

One of the most important positions on the football field is the defensive line. Most people think that it is all about running to the quarterback but little do they know it is all about technique. A lineman knows the steps to become a good defensive lineman. In order to become a good defensive lineman, a player must line up in a 3 or 5 technique, get in a 3 or 4 point stance, and briefly know the gap responsibility. First, the defensive line must line up in what a defensive coach or coordinator call a “3 or 5 technique”. A 3 technique is when the player lines up on the left side of the offensive lineman and a 5 technique is when the outside defender is line up of the right side or the outside of the offensive tackle. Coaches teach their lineman to get in a 3 or 4 point stance, depending how quick the rusher is. A defensive lineman has to be line up onto the correct offensive tackle. For example, defensive linemen are taught that keeping their feet under themselves and keeping square. A athlete position coach will always just done there throat because there stance makes them slow off the ball. A defensive lineman that wants to be the best at his position, it will be important to him to get their stance correct. If their stance is good then it is easier to come off the ball because being fast off the ball is also a good way to becoming a great lineman. The stance is a big key on the line of scrimmage because just lining up anywhere isn’t going to help you in anyway because two players do not want to meet each in the same gap and that makes another gap open for any backs to run through. If all players are line up correctly into their gap then there would not be any place the quarterback or running back to go inside of and the offensive losses yards because the defense is lined up
