Good Will Hunting

In the movie Good Will Hunting Will went through a big deal of therapy. Will was a great example of what influence a child's childhood could have upon them, causing them to behave in a certain way. Will greatly used many defense mechanisms during the movie, including denial, displacement, projection, regression, and rationalization. As a young child, Wills' foster father used to beat him. His father would lay out a belt, wrench and a stick. Will would always pick the heaviest object to show his foster father that he could take the pain because he was stronger then he seemed. This punishment as a child forced Will to cope with abuse and punishment. To deal with his internal problems Will used defense mechanisms.
