Deere entered another market, when he introduced a new three wheel plow, The New Deal gang plow. This line of plows grew very quickly and by the early 1890’s he was offering walking and riding plows in single bottom to six bottom gang plow versions.
Steam plowing was very difficult at the time. To even keep the steam in the boiler, it could only be used and run in level ground. Two different operators were needed for this, one for the engine, and another to run the actual plow itself, and since the machine was so large it required a larger area to turn so it could only be used in fields that were very large.
