There are currently over 850 species of ticks around the world so obviously we can't cover all of these so have listed just a few that your dog may encounter.

The Deer Tick - A nasty variety that can carry lyme diease - it has a a black head and black dorsal shield.
The Lone Star - The female variety has a very pronounced white star or small dot on it's back - this variety are very aggressive and will even stalk their prey.
Rocky Mountain Wood Tick - This nasty little blood sucker is quite robust and with a rounded and thicker body. It carries the rocky mountain spotted fever and is a massive cause of paralysis.
American Dog Tick - Looks like the rocky moutain variety and also carries the same disease.
Seed - The very early stage in the life cycle when the parasite has recently hatched from the egg, also known as lava.
