Although deer hunting is typically considered a sport and rarely used for food nowadays in the United States, throughout history hunting has been used for clothing and food. “Deer were an integral part of Native American’s lives. Meat and bone marrow made up a large part of their diet. Indians used hides for clothing, rugs, blankets, fishnets, and tools out of bones. They crafted arrowheads, clubs, fishhooks, and tools out of bones”; as a result, the white-tailed deer began to decline over the years, as stated by the Hunting Net Staff (Hunting Net Staff). “In 1900 The Lacy Act, the first federal wildlife law, was enacted. There are many different types of tree stands, such as a single person or a two person tree stand. After deciding whether to use a tree stand or not, they will need to find a place to set up in the location that they scouted earlier. Next is setting up the tree stand or setting up a spot to sit in the trees. A most common question is what to bring when going deer hunting. Jamel Sabb gives some very good tips on what someone would need to bring whenever they are going hunting. Some of the items that he listed were a; gun or bow, a backpack, rope (to carry gear up), deer calls, knives, a flashlight, water, scent killer, license, toilet paper, snacks, ammo, and gloves (Sabb). One of the items listed was a gun or bow. One question that most people ask is which is better when hunting white-tailed deer? Amanda Laurenzi interviewed some individuals about which they preferred. Laurenzi found through her research that “bow hunting was more popular than she had previously thought” (Laurenzi) Many of the people that Laurenzi interviewed said that they all have “pros and cons.” For example, Mike Brust explains that when bow hunting ‘…the animal must come within range and offer the proper angle for a humane archery shot…’ (Laurenzi). Jake Schmidt points out that when bow hunting the prey must be within 50 yards. To be a successful bow hunter, …show more content…
Before heading to the location that they scouted and chose, they need to prepare by wearing camouflage clothing and either an orange vest or hat. When going hunting of any kind it is important to wear orange so that other hunters can see and know that there is someone else in range. After arriving at the location, they need to spray themselves with scent killer (see figure4) to get rid of the human odor. Deer have a very strong sense of smell and if they smell human they tend to stay away. Now that they are at the location they need to get settled in. Jamel Sabb explains in his video about deer senses, that when hunting be careful of the deer’s three senses. First he talks about the deer’s eyesight; deer have very big eyes so they see more and can see movement very easily. So this means when hunting the hunter must stay very still and move very slowly. Next is the deer’s hearing - deer have great hearing. The most important sense is the deer’s smell. Deer have very large noses. This being said, when someone is hunting they need to make sure to have a minimum amount of human odor with scent killer. Make sure that the wind is coming in the direction of the location has been chosen. (Sabb) Now it is time to sit and wait for deer to come in range and then take the

Hunting has been around since the dawn of time. Having transformed from a vital means of survival to a sporting activity, people have long debated both sides of the issue. While some view hunting as a righteous action, others despise the deed. The argument for hunting as an admirable or distasteful act is still relevant to present society. As seen in the writings of Rick Bass and Robert G. Schreiner through many comparisons and differences, imagery, deeper meanings, stances, and views, the debate of hunting is a controversial matter.…

My First Deer One brisk 30 degree day in January, when I was nine years old, was a day for which I was extremely excited. My dad got me out of school earlier that day, so we could go deer hunting. I had already shot a turkey the year before, so guns were nothing new to me. We made a quick stop at my house so that we could pick up the .243 youth edition, a really short barreled .243, that my dad had bought just about a month before so that we could go hunting, and I would actually be able to handle the gun. At this point we did not have the hunting land that we do today, so we went to my grandpa’s house and hunted in the clearing of trees behind his house.…
