The book, Ultimate Deer Food Plots by Ed Spinazzola, presents the reader with many ideas on property management. The concept that stood out to me was the idea of planting a multiple food plot lane. The basic design of these plots is to have numerous long sections with varying crops. Each strip can differ in size but are typically, 15ft-30ft wide. For example, you may plant a layer of corn 30ft wide on the outermost portion of the field.…
Mirta Ojio’s book Hunting Season, Immigration and Murder in an All-American Town is based on a true story of an immigrant’s murder that turned a small American town on Long Island village of Patchogue into a war zone for immigration rights. In this critical reflection paper, I will discuss and analyze three key issues or themes that were represented in the Hunting Season and elaborate how these concepts connect with those of Governing Immigration through Crime by Dowling and Inda. The first concept is that of the Membership Theory, a theory which “limits individual rights and privileges to the members of a social contract between the government and the people” (Dowling & Inda,2013). The Membership theory often marks out boundaries of who is an accepted member of society and who isn’t, which was demonstrated in Hunting Season when Marcelo Lucero traveled from Ecuador to Long Island.…
What is the American religious experience? Well there is no specific answer to this question as everyone has his or her own perception of what the American religious experience actually means to them. In the book Lame Deer, Seeker of Visions discloses his own personal experience of the American religious experience and how it did not only just effect him, but other Native Americans as well. The difficulties he had to face were living a both an American and Native American life style. He talks about how Native American children were treated poorly in schools as they were forced to take in the American culture.…
Each step is precise, each movement fluid, and every sense awake, ready. The hunter is alive, adrenaline coursing through his blood. Rustling leaves scream his prey’s hiding place. His body moves without thought, instincts becoming all that he knows. The hunted recognizes this rhythm of feet pounding the ground, knows it better than his own heartbeat.…
A work of literature can take a reader on many expeditions. Some works take the reader to faraway lands and fantasy worlds while others travel to times past. However, how many works take the reader on a trip through the human spirit? The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell and Hunters in the Snow by Tobias Wolff are two such works.…
Have you ever thought that two stories have things different, yet have something in common? In the story High Noon A retired Marshal has to save his town from a man who wants him dead. The Most Dangerous Game tells a tale of a hunter who leans what it means to be hunted. Both of these characters and the settings that they are in are different, but the conflicts that they have to deal with are the same.…
One day after we left Ash Hollow, we travel by Chimney Rock. It is a huge tower of rock that blocks out the sun. It was magnificent. You could never see something that spectacular in Philadelphia. I keep looking back at the rock, watching it disappear into the distance, the sunlight fading.…
The Hunting Ground In world, we live in today the need for a college education is at a premium, but at what cost? Per a survey by Cantor et al, “Among undergraduate students, 23.1% of females and 5.4% of males’ experience rape or sexual assault through physical force, violence, or incapacitation” (2015). While these statistics are very concerning, the handling of these cases across college campuses is even more alarming. The documentary entitled The Hunting Ground follows two victims of sexual assault and their journey to affect change on the way universities across America handle these cases. The documentary, gives a very real insight into the lives of those who have been affected by acts of sexual assault.…
The Monster Whitetail “Tackle him Scott, tackle him!” I yelled at the top of my lungs. I wasn’t about to let the biggest moonshine bust in Franklin County get away, let alone the state of West Virginia. Scott was running as fast as he could, huffing and puffing. I was right behind Scott, and right before I was able the pull my taser out.…
Some people think spending a day in the woods is relaxing and peaceful. I used to think that as well, until I went turkey hunting. Spending a day in the woods hunting with my brothers was frustrating, hard, and aggravating all at the same time because of the mistakes I made. It was a life changing experience. Hunting will get your blood pumping and your heart racing you’ll end up wanting to go turkey hunting more than you ever thought you would.…
The first time I ever shot a deer came as a tremendous surprise to me. It happened about four years ago. I had hunted for a while before that, but that was the first year that I actually took it seriously and I got my gun safety license so I could shoot. It was the second weekend in rifle season, so it was empty in the woods and quiet.…
Narrative- On 20Jun16 at 1527 hrs. I, Deputy Halbasch, was dispatched to the area of Co Rd 4 & Co Rd 18 for a report of vehicle vs. deer accident. Hunt for the Wilderpeople Film Taika Waititi ‘Hunt for the Wilderpeople’ is about a young troubled adolescent boy, named Ricky. After years of being thrown around countless foster homes at the age of 13 years old, Ricky feels he has found himself a stable family environment. But with a disturbance in the family and his backyard being hundreds of miles worth of native bush, troubles arise and he finds himself running from authorities, as they are on a manhunt after suspecting Ricky has been kidnapped. Two main themes which stood out to me as a Maori viewer living between my two parents homes were how stereotypical barriers create an image for people in today’s society and how ‘family’ influence a child’s development growing up. I felt close to Ricky as he is the perfect portrayal of a young Maori boy..…
It was a brisk fall morning in November. I had woken up extra early just to make sure I could make it out to my stand before the sun would peek above the horizon. I’m not much of a morning person, so waking up can be a difficult challenge for me. Since it was just my first year of deer hunting, my dad had agreed to sit out in the stand with me just incase any trouble came about. I quickly brushed my teeth, got dressed in blaze orange from head to toe, grabbed some snacks, and began the journey out to the stand where I would be sitting for a while.…
Frida Kahlo A woman of difference lies with a horrendous injury in her bed while she paints a soon to be iconic piece. Who is this woman who intimates even the most hyper-masculine man of the early 20th century? Kahlo’s fiery and rebellious spirit shows not only in her paintings but in the trailblazing role that she has on today’s society. Kahlo, while an iconic artist, was also a strong advocate for women, the disabled, and the LGBT community.…
