The Deeper Meaning Behind The Deepwater Horizon Spill
On April 20, 2010 the worst ecological disaster occurred in the gulf of mexico. A spill of apocalyptic proportions. This facility was built as a Ultra deepwater dynamically positioned submersible offshore drilling rig. This rig was owned by Transocean. It was built in 2001 in South Korea by the company Hyundai heavy industry. This particular rig was leased by British Petroleum during the time of the spill. In 2009 the rig gained the title of the deepest drill ever built (Reaching a depth of 35,050 feet). The cost value of this plant was around 560 million dollars. The Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill was a tragic mishap on BP’s behalf, killing several rig workers and having many other outreaching effects. The amount of crude oil that was spilled into the Gulf of Mexico over the course of approximately three months was 4.9 million barrels of oil and to go along with that, 2 million gallons of chemical dispersants to the Gulf. A major group of crude oil, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) was discovered along the northern shorelines of the Gulf of Mexico.
