Deepa Mehta’s trilogy brings awareness of changes in today’s society. In her “Elements Trilogy,” Fire, Earth and Water she gives an insight into how women were treated in India’s culture. (intimate relationships between independent women). This essay will discuss what I have learned about “humanities education” while viewing these movies. Fire 96, earth 98 water 2005 Fire is the first film in the trilogy, which was published in 1996. This film deals with the development of an intimate relationship between two Indian women. Even though the film came out in 196, India was many years behind other cultures in how they treated women. The people were practicing arranged marriages. Sita and Radha who are sister in-laws whose marriages were both prearranged. Radha’s husband uses as a sexual toy to try and prevent his urges to want/enjoy sex.
